Ruzzin & The Boston Tea Party
      #331 - 05/07/2008 15:28

Boston Tea Party? No, not December 16, 1773 but July 5, 1943!
This is another dogfight remembered by my goodfriend Generale Giuseppe Ruzzin. At the time he was Lieutenant (Sottotenente) and on that day he was piloting the last of the 40 Messerschmitt Bf109G-6/trop furnished to the 3 Gruppo of Regia Aeronautica at Santo Pietro airfield near Caltagirone (Sicily, Italy). Efficiency at Comiso airfield was down to only 3 aircraft that day! Together with 2 wingmen after a scramble take off from Comiso he intercepted a formation of bombers and attacked 3 Douglas A20 Boston (SAAF?). Soon all the 3 Boston sustained direct hit and Ruzzin clearly recall: "I hit the Boston at the centre with the 20mm (or 30mm) gun: suddenly there was an eruption of flames from the left engine" All the 3 Boston turned out bound for Malta with long trails of black&white smoke...
Anyone knows what really happened to the 3 Boston? Reached they Malta or not?
If confirmed this maybe was the last aerial victory of Ruzzin during the Second World War but not his last Warflight, but this...is another story!
