Tiger Moth Propeller
      #481 - 10/11/2009 00:01

Hello,

I am a new owner of a wooden propeller from my late grandmother's 1930s Tiger Moth, which was piloted by her 1st husband. After a big clear out I have come across a Pilot's Log Book, it includes details of all flights that were made and also the locations. It also includes a Pilot's License with photo and signatures.

I was wondering if anybody on these forums would know anything about these sorts of items, or even advise me on how much these would go for if I was to sell.

Thank you in advance

John

FIRST OF ALL AS A NEW MEMBER OF THIS SITE I FIND NOBODY HAS ANY OPINON OR ANSWERS OM ANY SUBJECT. I'M NOT GOING TO BE MUCH HELP BUT I WOULD TRY AIR PLANE CLUBS AND AIR PLANE MUSEUMS. THE PROPELLER ISN'T WORTH MUCH ON IT'S OWN BUT BECAUSE YOU HAVE LOG BOOKS AND OTHER INFORMATION ON THE PLANE IT CAME FROM IT'S SALE VALUE IS MOST LIKELY 4 TIMES THE PROPELLERS WORTH. GOOD LUCK.

Bob took off from Regina at about 7:30 a.m. heading east for Virden, Manitoba where this aircraft flew with No. 19 Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) in 1942. He flew through some heavy rain showers, which finally broke after about 40 miles.

Bob landed at Virden to a 'beautiful reception." There were about 50 people waiting for the aircraft at the airport, including a lot of women and children and the publisher of the local newspaper. Bob heard that there had been a lot of clapping when he made a real smooth landing.

Bob was told that during the war Virden didn't have runways, but had a huge circular flying field which meant pilots simply pointed in the direction that would allow them to takeoff into the wind. About a half mile from where he stopped to refuel, one of the wartime hangars was still standing.

Bob took off after an hour visit and made several low passes of the airport before turning in the direction of Brandon. A local pilot flying a Cessna 140 fell into formation for the 35 minute flight and apparently took a lot of air-to-air pictures of the Tiger Moth.

I want to do something exciting and different, I wanted to do Rock climbing and Photography but their too expensive.

I've read the list of the website but nothing appeals.

Any Ideas..?

I finally noticed why the power system sounded like a Turbo prop, the poor old GWS Slow Flyer 8 X 6 indeed was unbalanced as a result of pavement strikes and the tips were indeed so much fractured that it caused the loud noise and perhaps unbalanced situation.
