Newark Air Museum - January 2010 Reminders
      #492 - 19/01/2010 14:07

I just wanted to take a brief moment to provide an update of what’s going off at Newark at present.

Firstly be aware of the road closures / redirections that might affect access to NAM on January 21st and 22nd, which is due to a major agricultural event that’s running on the Newark Showground.

The recent spell of bad weather has reduced visitor numbers slightly, which makes January a great month to take part in the Observer Corps Aircraft Recognition Competition – as of this morning there are single figure entries for this month, which means you have a better chance of winning!

Sadly there’s still nothing more to report on the possible acquisition of the Nimrod R1.

Finally the museum has joined the Just Giving online donation system to help people make web-based donations towards the museum. In future this is likely to extend to specific fund raising appeals. Further details about this new donation option and indeed all of the points mentioned in this post can be found on our news page at http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/news.php

No Blacksheep you are not being pedantic, you are right to point this out. Perhaps I should say the reunion is for anyone who flew or worked on these aircraft in any capacity. At the last reunion we had a guy turn up who had worked at Handley Page making Victor 1s, and he was clutching a piece of metal (cant remember what, exactly) bearing his signature, which he had installed in the aircraft when it was being built. He managed to find out when and where the a/c was being scrapped (St Athan presumably) and managed to retrieve the component as a souvenir. He was a civilian who had never actually served on the V Force as such, but he certainly had as much right to be there as I had. So centralised servicing guys are obviously as welcome as those who were actually on squadrons.
