Deadline set for Vulcan project closure
February 6, 2010
With under £200,000 raised since November against a goal of £800,000 the Vulcan to the Sky Trust (VTST) has placed all of its employees on one month's notice as of 1st February 2010.
Whilst this is not the first time the VTST has been in a similar situation — the project has previously been saved at the eleventh hour by public donations and generous benefactors — XH558's supporters are not assuming, in the current financial climate, that the same will happen again.
To avoid the prospect of the closure and the grounding of the world's only airworthy Avro Vulcan the VTST needs to raise over £300,000 in new pledges by the end of February followed by a further £300,000 in pledges by the end of March.
Dr Robert Pleming of VTST said: "As we count down the days of February, thousands of our loyal supporters know full well what they will be missing if the worst comes to the worst for XH558”.
According to a recent press release the VTST are not asking for cash donations whilst uncertainty exists about XH558's future but are seeking pledges for donations to be honoured once the required targets have been met.
