Huge 75th for the DC-3 at AirVenture

January 29, 2010
On December 17, 2009, the 74th anniversary of the first flight of the Douglas DC-3, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) announced a huge commemoration for the type's 75th anniversary at its AirVenture show in July 2010.

By mid-January nearly 40 DC-3/C-47s were already slated to go to Oshkosh. The event will begin with the mass arrival of 25 DC-3s on the morning of July 26, the aircraft for the formation flight having assembled an hour's flying time south at Rock Falls, Illinois, over the previous weekend.

The festivities at AirVenture will include historical and technical forums/ presentations, fly-bys, and reunions for hundreds of pilots, mechanics, paratroopers, flight attendants and passengers who have been involved with the type.

This is just a taster — see March's Aeroplane magazine for the full story and picture.
