Newark's 'significant' Meteor to be restored
July 29, 2008
Meteor NF.14 WS739, a 'significant' airframe on the National Aviation Heritage Register on long-term to Newark Air Museum (NAM), will shortly be moved under cover for restoration by museum volunteers and staff. WS739, which arrived at Winthorpe Airfield in January 1984, is currently being dismantled after many years displayed outside.
The aircraft was formally operated by 25 Squadron at RAF Tangmere and RAF Waterbeach, and also flew with both 1 and 2 Air Navigation Schools. It's final duties were as 'gate guardian' at RAF Church Fenton between 1969 and 1975.

Another recent Newark project showing the standard to which the Meteor will be restored is Blackburn Buccaneer S1 XN964, which has now received markings appropriate to its period of service with 801 squadron aboard HMS Victorious between January 1964 and June 1965.
