On November 4 at the US Navy Air Station, Whidbey Island, Washington, the restoration of Consolidated PBY-5A N84857 reached a milestone when volunteers from the PBY Memorial Foundation (PBYMF) fitted the amphibian with its wings. The combat-veteran machine was based at Whidbey Island back in 1943, before going to the Aleutian Islands with VP-43. On November 4 1943, the PBY suffered a port engine failure. The pilot feathered the prop on the starboard side in error, resulting in an emergency landing in the sea near Adak.

The PBYMF is currently trying to raise $4m for a hangar to house the PBY.
