Vimy day schedule confirmed

Brooklands Museum has released the schedule for Vimy Day on November 21, giving full details of the event. Several prominent members of the team which built and operated Vickers Vimy replica NX71MY will be taking part.

They include:

  • Peter McMillan, who initiated the project, piloted the Vimy on its epic England—Australia flight in 1994 and owned the aircraft until its acquisition by Brooklands Museum;

  • John LaNoue, who built most of the Vimy and copiloted it on its England—South Africa flight in 1999;

  • John Dodd and Clive Edwards, who in June this year flew the Vimy to Ireland and back for the 90th anniversary of Alcock & Brown's 1919 transatlantic flight;

  • Jenny Moseley, who co-ordinated the three re-enactment flights together with the support efforts and publicity.


The day will comprise:

10.00: Registration & coffee/tea for conference delegates (Members' Bar)

10.30: Conference opens (Chairman Michael Oakey, Editor of Aeroplane) - Welcome by Brooklands Museum Director Allan Winn.

10.40: Lecture – 'The Vickers Vimy' by Philip Jarrett

11.20: Lecture - 'The Transatlantic Vimy and Alcock & Brown' by Peter Elliott (RAF Museum)

12.00: Lecture – 'Building a Vimy' by John LaNoue

12.30: Questions

12.45: Lunch for lecture attendees (Blue Bird Room)

14.00: Lecture - 'The Vimy Project 1994-2005' by Jenny Moseley

14.45: Lecture – 'Flying the Vimy in 2009' by John Dodd and Clive Edwards

15.30: Tea followed by Question & Answer session

(16.00 Museum closes to public but hangar remains open for Vimy Day delegates up to 1700hrs).

16.15: Official opening of 'The Brooklands Vimy' exhibition by Peter McMillan

17.00: Filmshow (Members' Bar)

19.00: Drinks Reception in 'The Brooklands Vimy' exhibition (Wellington Hangar)

19.30: Celebration Dinner

20.45: 'A Tribute to Vimy NX71MY' by Peter McMillan.

21.30: Fund-raising Auction
